Lenten Retreat on Prayer

John Bunyan said “Prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God and a scourge to Satan.” But do we really know how to pray? Often our prayers sound like an endless list of things we want God to accomplish, all the while we know there must be something more behind prayer.

This silent retreat is complemented by assigned reading in the spiritual classic “Beginning to Pray” by Anthony Bloom.

Five meditations are given:

  1. Prayer as Repentance
  2. Prayer as Petition
  3. Prayer as Intercession
  4. Prayer as Thanksgiving
  5. Prayer as Praise as Experienced in the Eucharist

The retreat concludes with Holy Communion and a time of group prayer.
